Devon Bees’ Values
I am a keen beekeeper dedicated to promotion and conservation of the native honey bee population. My mission is to breed locally adapted honey bees based on the native black bee, ensuring the sustainability and biodiversity of our precious Westcountry landscape. I am committed to educating and inspiring others to protect this vital race of bee.
What the experts say on the value of local honeybees:
“The results of these experiments show that the locally adapted strains of honey bee consistently performed better than the “foreign” strains.”
Science Director Norman Carreck (International Bee research Association*)
“Beekeeping Associations, from all around the UK, are in agreement that the importation of bees from overseas is totally against best practices for the protection of our environment.“
BBKA
“I have been involved with virtually all kinds of bees. It is my strongly held view that the native or “native type” will take some beating over an extended period in U.K and Irish conditions.”
Roger Patterson
